PREMIER Jay Weatherill says the appointment of Andrew Mackenzie as the new head of BHP Billiton is good news for South Australia.
Mr Weatherill says Mr Mackenzie is a "very strong supporter" of the Olympic Dam expansion, which was mothballed by the company last year.
The premier told journalists on Wednesday he is planning more talks with Mr Mackenzie on the future of the project.
Mr Mackenzie will replace BHP chief executive Marius Kloppers, who on Wednesday announced his nearly six years as leader will come to an end on May 10.
